Osteoporosis


Osteoporosis, or thinning bones, is a serious condition that can result in tremendous pain with fractures.

Risk factors for osteoporosis include aging, being female, low body weight, low oestrogen such as during menopause, smoking, and some medications.

Osteoporosis is a condition that develops slowly over several years, without any symptoms.

When the bones are quite thin and fragile, fractures or breaks within the wrist, hip or spinal bones (vertebra) are most common.

A cough or a sneeze may cause the fracture of a rib, or the partial collapse of one of the bones of the spine.

There are no symptoms osteoporosis until you fracture a bone. Talk to your pharmacist for more details on the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.
