Ulcer

Ulcers are sores or holes in the lining of an organ, usually about 12cm in diameter. An ulcer can occur when the acid and pepsin overcome your body’s natural defences and eat into the underlying tissues.

Symptoms include:
Pain or a burning sensation (similar to indigestion) in your upper abdomen and sometimes your lower chest.
Difficulty in swallowing, or regurgitation.
Bloating, retching and feeling sick, particularly after eating.
Vomiting and nausea.
Loss of appetite and weight loss.

There are different ways to treat an ulcer. Determining which treatment is the best one for you will depend on your symptoms, the cause of your ulcer, and how far it has progressed. See your pharmacist for help.
