Gout

Gout is the deposition of uric acid crystals in joints. It commonly affects the elderly, but anyone can get it. People at high risk of getting gout are people who are, overweight, drink too much alcohol, or eat too much meat and fish. Gout may also be caused by some medication.

The symptoms of gout include:
Night time attack of swelling, tenderness, redness, and sharp pain in your big toe.
Gout attacks in your foot, ankle, or knees.
Attacks can last a few days or many weeks before the pain goes away. Another attack may not happen for months or years.

The build up of uric acid that led to your gout attack can still harm your joints. See your doctor even if the pain from gout is gone.

Changing your diet may help to manage your gout. In addition to this there are several options available for treating gout related pain. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
