Hair Loss

Hair grows all over our body except on our palms and the soles of our feet. Hair is made up of a protein called keratin and an adult has on average 125,000 hairs on their head. It is common to lose approximatley 100 hairs a day.
Hair loss can affect male and females.

The cause of hair loss depends on the type of hair loss:
1. Male and female pattern baldness is linked to over sensitive hair follicles due to an excessive amount of hormone.
2. Hair loss in patches is linked to a problem with the immune system.

Hair loss can also be caused by burns, Xrays, scalp injuries, and exposure to certain chemicals including those used to purify swimming pools and to bleach, dye and perm hair. In such cases, normal hair growth usually returns once the cause is eliminated. Hair loss can also be a side effect of medication.

There are many treatments available for hair loss. Speak to you local pharmacist for more details.
